November 29, 2018

It’s been months since there were any substantial updates on the XFL, but that changes next week when the 8 cities participating in the 2020 season are unveiled.

“The wait is almost over,” the football organization tweeted on Thursday. “This coming Wednesday, Dec. 5, we unveil our eight cities and the venues we will play in for our inaugural season in 2020.”

In case you somehow missed it, Vince McMahon announced back in January that he was once again attempting to launch a football league.

The only location known to be of interest for the league at this point is Orlando. WWE’s Senior Vice President of Special Events John Saboor reportedly contacted Orlando’s executive director of venues about the prospect of putting a team in Camping World Stadium.

That same article mentioned it might be difficult to land a team in Orlando, however, because Charlie Ebersol’s league Alliance of American Football — which kicks off one year before the XFL does — has already confirmed they will have a team in Orlando.

Wednesday’s announcement will be streamed live on XFL.com.

First City To Receive New XFL Team Announced

https://www.sescoops.com/new-xfl-team-city-announced/

The XFL is set to kick off in 2020, and the league is finally beginning to take shape. McMahon made the announcement of the league’s revival earlier this year. McMahon said he and the XFL wanted to ‘reimagine’ football. Exactly what that means is unclear, however, talk of rule changes and shortening the game were mentioned.

With that being said, after the initial announcement of the league, and hiring former NFL star Oliver Luck as the league’s commissioner, not much news about the XFL has come out. Now, however, it appears the first city to receive a team for the 2020 league has been announced. Per a report from KSDK, St. Louis is the first city to be receiving an XFL team.

The remaining seven cities are expected to be announced next week. Up until 2015 St. Louis was the host city to the NFL’s Rams. However, they soon departed and opted to move to Los Angles instead. The report states St. Louis’ XFL team will play 10 regular season games, with five being played at the Dome at America’s Center.

McMahon has put quite a financial interest into the new venture and is expected to have paid half a billion dollars after the first three years of operations. “The Chairman of The Board” sold $100 million to fund the XFL’s parent company, Alpha Entertainment. Per an SEC filing, WWE is listed as a minority owner of the XFL.

What other cities do you think will be receiving XFL teams?

With zero actual inside info on this, I can't help but suspect that San Diego would have been a slam dunk choice for the XFL,
but the early momentum of the AFF/The Fleet may have made the XFL decide to place one of their 8 teams elsewhere.

I'm okay with that: Early indications are that the AAF will be more real football than the XFL...

They should do 8 different markets. Then have a Superbowl between XFL amd AAF league champs. Maybe call it something bigger the "1 million dollars Superbowl"

It’s like the party was last night, and after everybody’s passed out on the floor, some dork walks in and asks where the party’s at.

Um, go home.

That is a great idea. Except McMahon is a super egomaniac and despises all business competition.

No SD on this list:

https://domainnamewire.com/2018/11/30/xfl-cities/

Domains suggest which cities might get XFL football teams

For example, it registered AtlantaXFL.com, XFLAtlanta.com, and XFLAtl.com. Here are the cities that associated names were registered for:

Atlanta

Cleveland
Dallas/Arlington
Detroit
Houston
KansasCity
Los Angeles
Minnesota

At this pooint the AAF has more credibility due to the former NFL coaches, players and execs involved. The XFL has Oliver Luck (Andrew Luck's dad) as commisioner and Vince McMahon. They are are alao trying to shake the stigma of the original league and are a year behind the AAF. Not sure how they will make themselves more appealing than the AAF.

The only thing I can see Vince McMahon getting this late out of the gate is a merger of sorts with the AAF. I'll be following the Fleet I just wish they had incorporated some of the Blue Angels colors in their unis.

One will be Los Angeles. :)

Come on in....the lack of water is fine!

:geek:

...inadvertently posted a list of all eight teams. The link provided to the XFL page currently contains no such information; instead, there’s a video announcing that an announcement is coming on December 5.

Per the report, the cities (in addition to St. Louis) are Dallas, Houston, L.A., New York, Seattle, Tampa, and Washington.

Maybe the LA XFL team should share the new stadium with the Rams and the Chargers stay in the soccer stadium.

  • The XFL Has Interest in a Possible Return to the Los Angeles Market
Steve Bryant · 06/07/2018

Vince McMahon’s rebooted XFL is looking at possibly returning to the only city to win the league’s championship. According to several sources, in April the league contacted AEG about the availability of the Stub Hub Center in Carson for XFL games in 2020. We were told the discussions were only preliminary and more to find out if the soccer stadium is open to holding more football when the Chargers leave after next season.

The Los Angeles Xtreme won the league’s only championship in 2001. The team played at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and averaged 22,679 per game, good for fourth in the league. The attendance numbers are skewed by drawing over 35,000 to their home opener, and they averaged around 19,000 fans for their remaining games.

When the XFL operated in 2001, the Los Angeles market had no NFL teams, but now they have two. Adding a third team to the Los Angeles area, especially when the market’s enthusiasm for the Chargers has been lukewarm at best, could be a big risk.

Los Angeles marks the second market that the XFL has reportedly show interest in returning to, as Mike Bianchi of The Orlando Sentinel reported on May 1, 2018 that XFL reached out about possibly putting a team in Orlando’s Camping World Stadium. In 2001 the Orlando Rage had the league’s third highest average attendance with 25,563. The Alliance of American Football, which is another spring football league that is scheduled to start next year, has already announced they will have a team in Orlando as well.

The XFL also announced via Twitter on June 6, 2018 that they have sent out invitations to submit a proposal have gone out to interested XFL markets and stadiums. The photo attached to their Tweet shows 47 iPad Pro boxes with the XFL logo on them.

Read stuff that they will play at stubhub. That’ll be great because a new XFL franchise is going to draw more fans than the NFL team playing there now.
