Boston Bruins just retired his jersey. I remember watching him play at the Sports Arena back in the day. CONTRATULATIONS WILLIE!!! BTW , notice he is apparently living in America's Finest as he delivered his remarks from SD! He came home to America's Finest. As with many athletes who have the privliege of playing in this town, a large % end up coming back to settle down if they've moved on during their playing career.

I remember watching Willie O’Ree with the Gulls, I never knew his significance nor did I even notice he was African American, just that he was good and was the star of the team. Cool they finally retired his number, the Jackie Robinson of the NHL. He didn’t attend due to Covid and travel concerns. His number 20 hangs in the rafters in the Sports Arena.
