Because for a "jumbo" or "elephant" package that sometimes requires up to 3 TEs, you'll need a 4th as a backup.

Unfortunately, with both Krause and Shea injured, we can't run a 3 TE set.

Hopefully, Krause will return for the Baltimore game, and we can try it out for the first time this season.

Dallas and New England run 3 TE sets on occasion and carry 4 TEs on their team. The fourth is usually on the PS and activated if one of the 3 active TEs gets injured.

Unfortunately, none of our TE can be put on the PS, so we must make them all active.

A 3-TE set has been used by Dallas and NE down in goalline situations. It has also been used when they plan on rushing the ball on a 3rd and short, or even 4th and short. The extra beef in the lineup, with 260+ lb TE, instead of 220lb WR or 245lb FB (unless you have Lo Neal), provides the extra push to help gain the tough yards successfully.

Imagine an elephant package that has 265lb Gates, 290 lb Manu, and 256 lb Krause (or Shea), along with our 5 OL, and then LT and Lo Neal.

That's a lot of beef to throw at the defense to block for LT on a short yardage play.

You could also substitute LT for the bigger Michael Turner if you wanted.

We won't really know why until the two fairy-boys who can't seem to find the practice field suit up on a Sunday.

Because they signed Shea before they knew they would get Manuwatsit. And Krause still has an upside they are curious about.

The NFL still has that stupid rule you can only dress 47 players and the rest are inactives (3rd QB's etc etc)

Although, one article mentioned that the Bolts ran a pseudo 3-TE set in the Oakland game. They said Lekkerkerker was at the RT spot and Olivea was at the TE spot for a play or two.

I'm reviewing the game to see when that happened. The one play where I think it could have been is in that 4th and goal from the Raiders' one yard line.

They ran that formation a few times with the Titans as well. They would overload one side with the big ugly's then fake and roll out to the weak side.

It's glorious!!:bolt:
I like seeing that kind of shit out of the O-line Coach and Cam Cameron.

It confuses the hell out of the defenses and lets us take our game to them. :bolt:

they keep 4 TE's so then they can run 3 TE sets and when all 4 are healthy, if one of them gets hurt then they have the depth to sort the problem out instead of finding themselves with a problem at the position:tup:

Every coach wants good depth at any postiton:tup:

GO BOLTS!!!!!!:bolt: :bolt: :foley53:
