Well, the WR Gerran Walker we scooped up after letting Rashaun Woods go returned punts and kickoffs in college.

There's Ray Perkins who did it for us in preseason and in the Green Bay game.

There's also Cletis Gordon.

However, any thoughts of having Cromartie, Turner, Parker, or V.J. (when he comes back), doing it should be nullified.

Those guys are too valuable for the other things they'll be doing in the normal offense/defense to risk on special teams.

He returned 3 KR's for TD's and 6 PR's for TD's.....geez SLUG you dissin Primetime?
If Deion was so good at kick returns, why did he post only one season where he had over 1000 return yards?

Surely, if he was "the shit" Atlanta should have had him return every punt and kickoff his 5 years.

Why didn't they? Because he was busy being their #1 CB.

I don't want Cromartie returning kicks or punts.

I want him spending ALL his time learning, developing, and becoming our #1 playmaking CB.

Me too but that is dream world....CRO might as well be doing something else besides playing nickle....Hell Darell Green did it for 20+ years so why not CRO? :icon_mrgreen:
Cromartie will be the nickel back only this season. Maybe for just the first half of it.

At the very latest, he'll be one of our "starting" CBs next season.

I don't want to risk an injury on ST sidetracking his development.

How many DBs get injured on ST play versus normal secondary play? In normal secondary action, they don't have bullseyes on their back, with 11 guys running full throttle at them.

Put them in for kicks and punts, and you'll have that target on their back about 8 times a game, 16 games a year, or 128 times a season.

128 chances to get injured by a ST player running full steam at them, looking to seperate them from the ball.

OK so we make CRO a prima dona?
No, we let him develop and mature into the best CB the NFL has ever seen.

Let some other guy take the punishment on special teams.

Someone who won't be part of the starting 22 this season or next.

Yeah. I just think we should give Sproles one last chance to come back and redeem himself his 3rd season.

If he doesn't show improvement, then I'm all for cutting him and looking for someone else.

Or, if his replacement really tears it up and returns one or two for a TD while posting something like a 27.0 return average, then we stay with that guy.

RW McQuarters, who will be released from the Giants
What make you think AJ would make a play for him?

Why not? At the very worst McQuarters would be a good dimeback. He has more experience at CB than any other player we are looking for at that #4 CB position.
$$$ Aj only shops the bargin basements.

He would have to be on the block for a while to accept AJ's offers. Been played out time and time again. AJ dont pay for FAs. Even when everyone predicted he would this off season.

No, he just doesn't over spend for guys like Hutch. (that contract was fuggin stupid. waaay too much for a guard)

If he sees value in the player, he will make the deal. But if McQuarters and his agent are looking for starting CB money, he is dreaming. If he is released by the Giants his price should be low anyway, unless there are more moroic GMs out there like they guy in Minny.

He wont and i doubt he gets released after signing a 3 year FA deal just this year.

I d be surprised with that very young secondary....asside from Madison who is one starter.

Plus AJ already said they would replace Sproles role from within.

Even though Turner is listed as the #1 KR as of today's depth chart, I think Markus Curry may wind up being both the KR and PR come week 1.

I got your back L. Let's see Cro on some punt detail. The guy could be a freak back there. Let's take a looksie.

It worked ok with another first round corner named Darien Gordon.

Just punts and only once or twice for shits and grins. What if? Let Turner get the snot knocked out him on kickoffs. But Cro might be a mighty weapon at a position that only requires instinct and can decide a game.

I don't have a big prob with this scenario...I don't think it'll happen tho. Marty has already said Cro will have enuff on his plate learnin his DB assignments without concerning himself with return duties.

Those are my three choices, but Marty hasn't called me yet. :icon_mrgreen:

Seriously, I don't want a guy that SD is counting on to play significant minutes in the offense or defense to be our returner.

For two years in high school, besides playing free safety, I was the punt returner. Two broken ribs, twisted ankles, and a knee surgery following my Junior year were all due to my punt return duties. You take some VISCOUS shots in the return game.
