Who's tuning into this weekend's opening games? The league is made for TV primarily and unlike the XFL is not associated with the greedy NFL.

Perhaps. There is no SoCal team and we have the SnapDragon bandbox that would be perfect for it.
ha ha,,,,,,SnapDragon bandbox. Shoulda named it FleetEnema Stadium. WTH. Drove by there a couple of times when down visiting family and MV has been ruined basically. SD Stadium was iconic......it was even mentioned in architectural circles and by experts as being sort of a marvel and ahead of it's time when built. It looked pretty damn cool......still tough to believe they could not renovate that thing but apparently things were so bad it was beyond fixing, at least at a reasonable cost. City is so fucking cheap they didn't maintain it properly I'd wager and then you got a dickhead like spenis who only would take from the city. He has a few things he donated but I'd also wager he would never ever donate to anything more than what he took from it.........fucking son of a migrant labor ripoff artist. How does SD end up with these owners. Klein. lmao. He deserved to have a racehorse pee all over him instead of run a race. Another cheap ass who told JJ "I hope you have a great career as a shoe salesman". Fuckoff Klein, I hope you enjoy hell where the devil keeps handing you a Lombardi and just as you grab it he pulls it away and laughs in your face " Sorry Eugene, this is for Al Davis".

The stadium looks like a glorified high school stadium. I haven’t been inside but the aerial views and what I’ve seen myself, to me it’s completely unimpressive.

Looks like all games will be held in Birmingham. This is definitely made for TV. And it’s broadcast on both Fox and NBC. They’re going for it.

League will play in Birmingham for the next 3 years. Hopefully, during that time, they will expand to the west coast. Fox is committed to investing in the league for the long run.

That makes sense. TV is where the money will be made. Once they make that money they can expand and start thinking stadium deals.

Wow.....Mike Riley's Generals impressive first drive for a TD. Very first play of the USFL was a spectacular long catch by Satterfield.....plus he scored the TD on the drive. Go Generals! I don't like the effing Stallions....their uniforms remind me of the 40Whiners.

Damn,,,,,,,this is a long passing game league lol........2 quick scores 7-7.....long bombs. Love the camera/sound work.....especially on that kickoff....the mic must follow the action right on the field or players are wearing mics.....pretty cool. Eff the NFL. Hope these guys crush it and SD gets a team. Call us the Bolts just to rub it in Dean's face. Eff off Dean.

Love seeing the OG USFL uniforms and logos. Game is great so far and the quality of play offensively has been impressive. Luis Perez QB of the New Jersey Generals. played in the XFL and is from Chula Vista.
I thought I remembered that name ...which HS? Yeah fun to watch. Better than the NFL....the sound and camera work are better...I'm not sure if the game clock speeds up play...seems like it does.....ok I'm a Generals fan for now.....got the Perez/Chulie connection.....my hometown.....Hope the kid makes it. That first pass was impressive. Also really like you can hear the coach calling in plays to the QB and the talking right up to the snap...letting the fans hear that. Better than NFL that way too. I WANT A SD TEAM!!!!

You need to be fair with your assessment. The stadium was privately funded for 250 million dollars. Hence why it looks like a 250 million dollar stadium.

Unless you want to have the public finance a 1.4 billion dollar stadium, snapdragon is it. Honestly fuck the NFL.

Announcer and color guy are top notch......good stuff, very informative and that is better than NFL where half the games the commentary sucks. I think they might have something here. We'll see. GO WEST USFL.

that still doesn't resolve the fact they tore down an iconic stadium to replace it with something nondescript. It sort of is a constant reminder of what we once had and was taken away from us. It will always be a testament to what could have been in MV.

I’m being completely fair IMO considering how the city took 20 years dragging their feet and in the process completely fucked over the Q and then fast-tracked this Mickey Mouse House in six months - it was almost as if they had all their ducks in a row lol. If the city just had their SHIT together they could’ve maintained the Q as they were supposed to do and not have it rot away. I am an Aztec fan but I really hate that this thing represents how much of a minor league rinky dink sports town we are. Thank God we were blessed with Larry Lucchino, otherwise we’d have nothing.

That’s right, he played in the AAFL too. I remember they were hyping him up but the Fleet didn’t get him. Hoping good things for him.

You can thank dean spanos for that. Once dean left, I knew the nfl would never comeback. Honestly the nfl is a fucking joke. I cant believe these towns will mortgage their future to keep a team. I have been to buffalo, it is a shithole that money could have been used for a lot better things than four 10 dates a year.

yeah I get the economics of it.......the NFL sucks because it is a fucking parasite and drains the economy of any city/town that buys into their bullshit. And yes, that motherfucker spanos caused all this for SD (with the help of a completely incompetent city council, that deal was very close to being consummated and they had a viable plan for MV but shithead dean wanted out 10 years earlier and with fabiani were never serious about staying in SD). I wish Congress would go after the NFL and shut them down re: leveraging cities and not financing their own stadiums. These are all billionaires who need to fork over to play in cities.....Kroenke a least did that. And little man dean hung onto his coattails and rented just to survive and STILL is being sued by his sister, they are essentially going bankrupt in their foundation because dean is basically guaranteed failure to anything he touches.

Excellent move to resurrect them all, old school guys like us remember, it brings familiarity and that’s half the battle. They are getting sued by the old owners but the court hearing is next week, hopefully they can settle somehow, huge blow to have to change up all the names.

which begs the question: could they have not renovated the Q for 250 million rather than build a rinky dink stadium? Honestly.....driving by there reminds me a little of driving by the Oregon Ducks complex in Eugene OR.....a college stadium, only this will be on a smaller scale and not nearly as nice most likely. In Eugene it blends in and fits,,,,,,,MV not so much.

Good question. I don’t know for sure but you’d think they could. But “everyone” (however qualified they really were) said the innards were way too screwed up to renovate. That said, SDSU wanted no part of a renovated Q, I went to a game in 2018 and I was shocked at how little the crowd was and everyone in there could easily fit into SnapBandBox and there’d be room leftover for every Chuggers fan to sit and have elbow room.

yeah I remember Trumpet Man (Trumpy) who was a supposed 'expert' in engineering or somesuch saying it would be impossible to renovate, the innards were too effed up. Not sure how valid any of that commentary was frankly....have no idea if he was puffing re: his qualifications. But others said the same. City was not going to maintain it if it were renovated anyway. If so, shortsighted IMO....it should have been managed with events paying for any overhead. IMO the way things turned out aren't just on spanos but also on a totally corrupt city...where someone bought themselves MV by paying under the table with kickbacks and lobbying money. It's the way of the world. The hardcore SD sports fans naturally are the ones who end up suffering by all this. So NFL, Spanos, Corrup city and SDSU paying off whoever are the culprits in all this. As I said, SnapDragon will always be a testament to the failure of SD to get anything done and to spanos/NFL for being shitheads and parasites. Eff them all.

So as a consolation we might get a USFL team and have to watch them in that minor league stadium with limited tailgating and at least its better than nothing. WTH. SD dropped the ball.....the real failure was when the city council gave spanos an out on the lease......complete ignorance by them and failure to understand the repercussions and who spanos really was. Never trust an out of town stockton ripoff artist whose pedigree is zip other than ripping off migrants and building apts. City was even negligent in not locking up the logo and colors and name of the team in case that little prick left. Unreal. Stupid folks on that council are mostly antisports anyway......yeah the city needs funds for other things but you have to replace a goof like spanos with someone you can negotiate a fair deal with and who is like a Kroenke....able to fund their own stadium mostly. You seek them out and get going and make MV what it was intended to be. Truth is they never TRULY wanted it to happen and either did spanos. Both were too shortsighted and cheap.

Meh.....NFL overrated ......we can get a USFL team and it would be sort of like the old AFL hopefully and compete with NFL at some point. Just not going to be like the old Balboa stadium days though. That was a cool stadium unlike SnapDragon.

Our only consolation is the Padres, as I said we the sports fans of San Diego lucked out in that. I wouldn’t hold my breath in getting an arena that would attract the NBA or NHL. The corrupt city will pander to the developers and blame it on the NIMBYs.

Having the coaches mic’d up and cameras everywhere is a huge learning opportunity for casual viewers who may not like football because it’s foreign to them.

yeah this is GREAT!!! love it. much better production than any NFL game I've seen. It even has a SB atmosphere to it the way it's produced. The announcers are terrific. I think they got something going, we'll see. Kinda weird all games played there and the scheduling but frankly this is way better than watching the padres get beat again today. I'm glad I missed the pads for this frankly. Hate to say it but the Pads are reverting to 2021 form. Still way early but if that persists I'm gonna be watching a lot more USFL on weekends LOL.

Yeah, it is weird they’re all playing in Birmingham but I get it, the league is all about viewership, so eight stadiums are not needed, especially since the other seven teams already have NFL teams, makes sense to consolidate the stadium in Birmingham as that city is starving for pro football so they’d logically get more butts in the seats. I enjoyed the game today, I might tune in tomorrow since the Pads won’t be on until the late afternoon game on ESPN tomorrow.
