Reason to smile

Antonio Cromartie’s trademark smile has become a fixture around Chargers Park, and the grin and gleam were as big as ever Wednesday morning.

“I understand that it’s a business, but I’m glad to have my contract done so that I can just go play ball,” Cromartie said. “That’s why I’m here. That’s what I love to do. I’ve got plenty of reasons to be smiling today.”

Cromartie was on the field for both of the team’s practices Wednesday. He worked at right cornerback throughout the sessions and pleased Head Coach Marty Schottenheimer with his play.

Defensive end Igor Olshansky and tackle Marcus McNeill provided several entertaining and spirited battles during the team period.
Sounds like a future match for the "Oklahoma Drill" .....

BTW: That AP story about VJ beating Cro is a bunch of crap.

Vince Jackson is NOT in camp yet.

Casey Pearce (caseybolts on Chargers.com forum) confirmed that. He said ...

Yes, Greg Camarillo gave Cromartie some great battles yesterday, but I agree with all of you guys. Give AC some time and everything will be okay.
Bernie Wilson is a freakin' moron.

You can't email AP writers directly. You have to write the AP and they forward it. So, I didn't go ballistic on the first salvo ....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please forward to Bernie Wilson, who covers the San Diego Chargers NFL team for the AP.
Dear Mr. Wilson,
Your recent article about Antonio Cromartie's first day of practice is inaccurate. You noted that Cromartie was beaten by Vincent Jackson on multiple plays. I would like to know how that could happen, since Jackson has NOT yet reported to camp.
Furthermore, all of your stories seem to have negative tones towards the Chargers inserted throughout the story. Are you a news reporter, or an editorial columnist?
As far as I'm concerned, you have lost credibility with this reader. If you are going to continue to report on the Chargers, then please stick to the FACTS in your articles, and get those FACTS correct.
It's the FIRST freakin' training camp practice of Cromartie's NFL career. Hell, Johnny Unitas got cut after his first training camp.
People need to chill on evaluating rookies, especially early in camp.
Michael Lev, of The Orange County Register, reports San Diego Chargers DL Luis Castillo appears to have the makeup to avoid the "sophomore slump" that has struck other players in the past. Castillo has dropped 15 pounds from last season and is now 285 pounds. He cut carbohydrates out of his diet and has been attending Pilates classes.
Chargers | Merriman could avoid the sophomore slump
Fri, 28 Jul 2006 20:34:28 -0700
Michael Lev, of The Orange County Register, reports San Diego Chargers LB Shawne Merriman appears to have the makeup to avoid the "sophomore slump" that has struck other players in the past. Merriman has spent the offseason trying to get better, boxing at a club three times a week to improve hand-fighting skills that will help in pass rushing. He has also slimmed down to 268 pounds, seven less than the 275 pounds at the start of training camp in 2005.
