The Chargers are apparently ready to part ways with Toniu Fonoti and are entertaining offers for the injured left guard.

Sources said Fonoti's agent, Steve Feldman, has been advised by the Chargers to see what teams are willing to part with in trade for the fourth-year lineman.

Feldman could not be reached last night.

Fonoti has missed the past two games with a broken hand. He injured the hand in practice before the Chargers' second game, played in that game and was hampered by the injury.

Kris Dielman took over at left guard against the New York Giants, and his play has drawn rave reviews from teammates.

Fonoti had surgery the week after the Denver game and then had a second surgery last week. He is expected to miss at least one more game, and it seems unlikely he would immediately return to the starting lineup even when he is healthy.

Whether the Chargers deal Fonoti will depend on what they're offered in exchange. The Chargers' return could be limited unless they find a team desperate for a guard, because Fonoti will be an unrestricted free agent after this season.

Regardless, it appears Fonoti's time with the Chargers, who drafted him in the second round in 2002, is coming to an end.
