Marines plan to keep Tierrasanta parcel
By Ronald W. Powell
September 9, 2006

The Chargers can scratch one option from their playbook on stadium sites.

Early this summer, county Supervisor Ron Roberts suggested vacant land at Interstate 15 and state Route 52 near Tierrasanta as a possible location. But the Marine Corps owns the site, which it calls parcel G, and doesn't plan to give it up.

“It is an environmental mitigation site, reserved for environmental preservation purposes,” wrote Maj. Jason A. Johnston, a spokesman for Miramar Marine Corps Air Station, in an e-mail to The San Diego Union-Tribune. “However, some portion can be used at any time for training and/or readiness purposes as our national security mission requires.”

Roberts could not be reached for comment yesterday.
