Rivera is an impressive interview. He clearly wants the gig, saying all the right things. He wouldn't change what wasn't broken, i.e. the 3-4. He praises AJ and the coaches that are currently on the Chargers staff. He talks about continuity and not changing things just for the sake of changing them.

I think Rivera would be a solid hire.

Bear with me on my notes regarding the interview...

but here's what i took down.

Regarding 3-4 defense: He said chargers are solid on both sides of the ball. Can't just focus on defense. He said don't come in and try to change anything. Try to find the things that are doing well and do what you can. Manage, be the face, and be the leader of the organization.

About the position: A team that was put together very well and that he is obviously very interested in. He was sent a letter of request for interview.

What he brings to the chargers: Leadership, organizational, enthusiasm and energy. Someone who's seen the league from the bottom up. Started as a player, then to coach, defensive coordinator. Inside of his mind. He brings a lot to the team and the table and it all comes down to his leadership.

Coach that had the biggest impact on his career: Andy Reid.

Regarding front office: Good ownership, quality GM. Coming into good situation. Not coming into change anything. Just merely to manage. Continue the process and improve on it. Progression.

Regarding coach and gm relationship: looks forward to opportunity to build a relationship. It ultimately comes down to what's best for the team.

Regarding roster: A lot of people will relish the opportunity. Young roster. Thinks this team can be competitive for 10 years.

Regarding San Diego: Beautiful sunshine. Opportunity to come in and interview is already intriguing.

Oh, bite me. You want some uber genius that doesn't exist, who's going to come in and put his stamp on things and be the face of things, the Mike Williams of coaches, if you will.

That's not needed here. Kiss *** or not, Rivera knows that the team is more important than having your way. That's important. He knows that you don't change things if they ain't broke.

Why not. He has been in the league since dirt.

I'll even go out on a limb and suggest that he would give the ball to LT more than 9 times in a half with the way he was shredding the Pats D.

Thanks for this, rep for you!

I like what he said. Clearly Rivera is gunning for a HC job. Of all the names mentioned, Rivera sounds the best.

    Maybe we will?

One thing to remember is that the best HC is going to be the guy who can bring the players and the team together and get everyone on the same page. He doesn't have to be an X's and O's guy. That's what the DC and OC are for. Hell, Marty guided this team to 14-2 and all he did on Sunday is make inscrutable speeches and throw a red flag on the field once in awhile. :abq1:

So, he's a Tampa-2 style DC and his most influential coach is from the West Coast offense.

    No ..... definite NO.
