Another HOF great passes. Incredible player and individual. A huge part of the "Big Red Machine". RIP Joe.

As a kid, I gravitated initially to Pete Rose, and thus, the Reds...I was too young to understand things like
that some owners (Bill DeWitt, Marge Schott, etc.) were seriously uncool humans, who should not be supported. But I was a kid! I was at the peak of my young fandom when those amazing Reds teams were peaking in the '70s. I can still reel off all the positions, batting order, etc.

Morgan was probably the most lovable of the guys...and usually the smartest player on the
field. After he retired, he ran a Wendy's in Oakland, which I would stop in to here and there, hoping
to see the little legend for myself. I never did. I will miss him more than 99% of athletes who pass.

If you want to know way too much about Joe Morgan, this is a pretty good source. :)

Cool. Yeah as kids we tended to overlook the dark side of sports and mostly ownership. Joe Morgan was just all class. I too loved the team concept and when they remained intact for long periods so thus the Big Red Machine. I loved collecting all the cards of those guys as a kid. Interesting story about him running a Wendy's in Oakland. And yeah the smartest out there maybe along with Johnny Bench......why he was doing announcing. I'm guessing he had ownerhip in Wendy's and might not have been there physically much......he probably made plenty as an announcer after retiring.

Yeah...I later learned that he had, like 3 Wendy's and some other businesses...
so the chances of actually seeing him were surely less than I hoped, as a young man.

Yeah, in grown up life i came to have distain for Reds ownership, and, sadly, Rose, too. :(
