Billick reveals LB has torn hamstring, an injury that could require surgery

The Ravens are out of the playoffs and Ray Lewis could be done for the season too, the Baltimore Sun reported.

At yesterday's news conference, Ravens coach Brian Billick said that Lewis has a torn right hamstring, an injury that might require season-ending surgery.

Billick's statement goes against the Ravens' previous stand that Lewis would return this season, the paper reported.

Lewis has missed six consecutive games and did not attend the team's 16-15 win over the Texans, opting to seek a second opinion from a specialist in Miami, Billick said at the news conference.

An announcement on Lewis' status is not expected until tomorrow since the two-time defensive player of the year is still in Miami, but a league source said it's not likely that Lewis will play again this season, the paper reported.

"There are varying opinions as to whether you do a surgery on this and there are prevailing opinions that say no, that the strength is good," Billick told the paper. "That's something he and the doctors will have to sort through. Obviously, if they decide that it would put him in additional risk long term and if surgery is required, then clearly that would do him for the rest of the season."
