KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - San Diego linebacker Shaun Phillips injured his right calf in the second quarter against Kansas City on Sunday and will be out four to six weeks.

The Chargers said the third-year linebacker, the team leader with six sacks, was hurt on the play when Tony Gonzalez went 57 yards on a pass to set up the Chiefs' third touchdown.

Phillips lay on the ground for several minutes before he was helped to his feet and limped off.

-------

Our run defense is slowly going down the crapper. Harris just doesn't have the bulk and strength to be effective, Igor is out and with Cesaire in there it's easier to send Donnie flying. You run = you put yourself in manageable situations = you negate the pass rush = the secondary looks like crap.

It is all a cycle... this team is not well-protected.

Have another drink Steve. We totally don't miss you.

So much for depth.
Yah don't worry guys I just heard a rumor that AJ just gave AKBAR JIHAD JIHAD a call and wants to sign him to a multiyear deal with 27 million dollars in bonuses. Underoath is probably salivating over SP's injury

This is what I feared. A spate of key injuries and our team isn't as strong as it was just 8 days ago.

Olivea is hurt.
McNeill has two broken hands.
VJ got hurt in practice.
Phillips got hurt and is out for a month.
Igor's out for a month.

Not to mention the several players out for the season due to offseason injuries.

This is a concern.

That being said, instead of the team being a bunch of Sad Sam's about it, get guys on the team in there that can play to step up and do the job.

I dont know all the insides like you guys do living in SD...But doesnt this open up a chance for my sleeper I called at the beginning of the year with Tim Dobbins taking Phillips place? Tim Dobbins is a stud and we will not lose a step with him out, mark my words!

Tim Dobbins is an inside linebacker. He wouldn't apply any pressure rushing off the edge and the only way he would see action at OLB is if every single one of our OLBs were injured.

Who?

Marques Harris is replacing Phillips. We need somebody to back him up.

Who knows, maybe they do bring back Akbar for that.
I dont know i would like to see Dobbins outside! I think he has enough speed to play there!

I have to agree with The Champ on Tim Dobbins. He's got a real attitude and can bring it. You need some nastiness in there, especially right now. I think he could play in place of SP. It could be a look that would surprise a few teams. From what I've seen, he looks pretty quick when he's chasing a QB. Hope SP gets well and comes back strong.:bolt:

Yeah I know I would just like to see him be given a shot at outside to see how he does!
You don't just stick guys places to see how they will do. There are certain responsibilities that each position needs to be accountable for.

Maybe we should put Gates at OLB just to "see how he does". He is quick!

We are up **** creek without a paddle right now.
