two things

1. Anyone going to friar-fest?
2. Will Khalil Greene be a Padre this year?

My opinion is we have to sign him. Gloves like his are not easy to come by. He has proven power, though his average is nothing special. With our strong pitching staff, we must also have a strong middle infield…KG is one of the best in the game!

Showed a bunch of team and players videos to kick it off.
Questions and Answer session didnt provide anything new.

Followed by an autograph session.

Brian tried to sign my Bullpen jersey and I had to stop him. He looked kinda pissy after that. :icon_eek:

SAN DIEGO -- Shortstop Khalil Greene and pitcher Jake Peavy were among several members of the Padres' organization who were honored Thursday at the team's annual United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego County Awards Dinner at the Manchester Grand Hyatt.

Greene was named the Most Valuable Player while Peavy -- who in November won the National League Cy Young Award -- picked up the Clyde McCullough Award as the club's top pitcher in 2007.

The 28-year-old Greene set career highs in hits (155), doubles (44) home runs (27), RBIs (97) and runs scored (89) in 2007. He ranked among the National League leaders in several categories for shortstops. His doubles and RBI totals for the season were new franchise records at his position.

As for Peavy -- who will formally receive his Cy Young Award this weekend in New York -- he led the Major Leagues in ERA among starters (2.54) and strikeouts (240) en route to winning 19 games. He was named the NL Pitcher of the Month on three occasions.

San Diego first baseman Adrian Gonzalez was awarded the Chairman's Award for contributions in the community. Two other Padres were honored with awards. Relief pitcher Heath Bell earned the Fireman's Award and third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff was selected as the Madres favorite Padre.

Bell set career highs in strikeouts (102), innings pitched (93 2/3), games (81), victories (six) and saves (two). He helped opponents scoreless in 69 of his 81 appearances.

As a rookie, Kouzmanoff overcame a slow start to hit .309 over his last 118 games, leading the Padres in batting average from May 10 through the end of the season. Overall, Kouzmanoff had 18 home runs and 74 RBIs.

Gonzalez was honored as the Padres player who best exemplifies the community spirit of team chairman John Moores and his family. Gonzalez worked with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, participated in the Children's Hospital Celebration of Champions, served as the celebrity spokesperson for the Big Brothers, Big Sisters Program and hosted a golf tournament to benefit the South Bay YMCA. He also supports his alma mater, Eastlake High School.

The Padres also handed out their Minor League awards for 2007 on Thursday with third baseman Chase Headley picking up the Minor League Player of the Year Award. Josh Geer, a teammate of Headley's with Double-A San Antonio, was named the Pitcher of the Year.

San Antonio manager Randy Ready, who led the Missions to the Texas League championship in his first season, was selected as the Jack Krol Award winner for contributions in player development, while Scott Littlefield was named the club's Scout of the Year.

FriarFest starts Saturday: Rain or shine, the Padres third annual FriarFest will take place beginning at 10:30 a.m. PT on Saturday and Sunday at PETCO Park. FriarFest runs each day until 3 p.m.
Fans will be able to get autographs from players, coaches and former players. There will be a question-and-answer segment with team personnel as well as an opportunity to tour the home clubhouse. Josh Bard, Greg Maddux, Jim Edmonds, and Gonzalez are several of the players who will be on-hand Saturday. On Sunday, Brian Giles, Trevor Hoffman and Mark Prior will be available. Padres manager Bud Black will be available each day.
