More on the Renfroe trade. The prospect (Cronenworth) the Padres will get is a two-way player - he pitches as an “opener” but is an everyday player.

Mookie Betts? That would change everything.

He should change his name. There is only one Mookie in baseball. This is like having another singer named Cher or another artist named Van Go. Mookie Wilson is the only Mookie. This Betts guy should be Trifecta Betts or, on a bad day, Craps Betts.

I still don't get what our plan is. Are we now just playing for this year after pretending all this time we were building for our long-term future? It isn't like we were on the verge of being contenders last year. We were still a few years away from being anywhere close to challenging the Dodgers. Adding a decent-hitting corner outfielder, a setup reliever, and a couple other guys with scrubby numbers isn't going to put us in contention, and the price has been prospects, Renfroe, and what seems to me to be big money we could have spent more wisely. This sounds too much like the last Spanos years of Bobby Beathard when he made a bunch of win-now moves that ruined our future. I hope I am wrong, and Preller's plan is just too genius to decipher.

You’re seeing things the way I see them. All of these moves are head scratchers. Hiring Tingler is a huge red flag to me. I am not expecting a winning season. I do like the new uniforms though.

The coaching staff is set. Jesus that’s a lot of coaches.

I read the first line wrong. I thought it said 11th-inning coach. How Preller would it be to have a different coach for every inning to match the new pitcher and new lineup we seem to have every inning?

I’d say it would be Andy Green-esque, but he isn’t the one with a zillion coaches to decide his every move.

Bud Black made similar moves. Preller seems like the common denominator. I hope my suspicions are just hallucinations and that Green was the real puppet master.

Black was hired by Sandy Alderson before Preller. Hated that hire too. Hated every hire since Bochy left.

Regarding the managerial hires after Black, you are not hallucinating. Preller has made three straight piss-poor selections.

Has Telesco taken over? One of the things I liked about the Machado signing was his durability.
At least they have a provision to give him back. But still, is there a trade to be made that involves a healthy player?

I hope that trade falls apart. Eff what they are doing. They shoulds kept Renfroe and Franmil together......that was sort of the powerplant of the team. They worked in tandem. After Franmil left Renfroe tailed off, the whole damn team did (although admittedly Tatis' absence was huge too). But if they haven't learned about what a player who gets injured is worth by what happend to Tatis much of last year, they are clueless. JUST SAY NO. Elbow effing injury. Eff that. Preller should change is name to Prellesco. Maybe we should nickname him that on here lolz.

Pham deal is official. Key line from the article:

“While Pham was declared by a specialist to be on track for spring training, according to a league source, the Padres’ medical staff had concerns after the exams that Pham could still require surgery.

So Preller makes the deal anyway despite his own doctors telling him he may require elbow surgery. Not only is he Telesco-esque with picking injured players, he’s also Beathardesque in ignoring red flags diagnosed by qualified sources as well (remember the Leaf red flags?). The article stated he had to play DH last year because of the elbow. Hell, we had two 40-HR DHs last year and we gave them away.

I do like the new uniforms though.

If Pham shows up injured, the owner has my permission to fire Preller the second Spring Training starts. A 2nd-base prospect and Hunter Renfroe for an injured guy in his 30s? Yea - professional G.M.s don't make that trade.

Prellesco.....really really questionable move......WTF. It's like the dude is just making moves to be making moves without a solid coherent plan or roadmap to get us to be competitive in our division. So Renfroe goes for this guy? I realize Renfroe was tailing off at the end of the year but that was likely due to injury and trade effects on the order. Nothing exciting has happened with trades , does anyone see anything that gives them real hope for next year vs. this year?

Hope Tatis plays more games, Paddack throws more innings, and Pomeranz makes the bullpen better.
