NHL Opening Night 2019-2020

At long last, opening night! Here is tonight's slate of games (start times Eastern):

Ottawa at Toronto 7:00 - Meh. The Senators barely qualify as an NHL team. They might as well be owned by a Spanos.
Washington at St. Louis 8:00 - Matchup of the last two Stanley Cup Champs. Should be a fun one.
Vancouver at Edmonton 10:00 - Two young teams trying to make strides...seems like the Oilers can never get over the hump though, even with Connor McDavid.
San Jose at Vegas 10:00 - Rematch of the controversial playoff series that turned on a blown major penalty call. Nice battle between two Western heavyweights that really do not like each other

Caught the Washington/St. Louis game. If that game is indicative of what we can expect from these two teams, we might have gotten a preview of a potential Finals matchup.

Blues stormed out 2-0 early on the emotional rush of the banner raising, Caps fight back and won in OT 3-2.

Nice, I like both teams. My young Ducks, did enough to beat Arizona 2-1 last night. First Duck win for former Gulls skipper Dallas Eakins.

NHL adopts 24-team playoff if season returns

The NHL and NHLPA must still figure out health and safety protocols and solve other issues, including where to play, when and if the season resumes with a 24-team playoff format.

Hey, on a side note, I heard recently that the City of Nashville is raising property tax by some 30% or something like that...is there any truth to that?

Yes, that is in fact true regarding Nashville, however, it's within Davidson County, which I live outside of:

Nashville would see 32% property tax hike, deep cuts under Mayor John Cooper's budget

Cooper's budget reflected a city pushed to the brink. Long-simmering economic imbalances have been exacerbated by a deadly tornado and COVID-19.

I moved to Nashville from Frisco, TX a little over a year ago, where I was paying over $8,000/year in property taxes - one of the highest property tax states in the country, although no state income tax which helps to even it out. Property taxes in Tennessee are about 1/3 of what they are in Texas, but imagine that 30% increase in Nashville is going to piss a lot of people off.

I've moved around quite a bit in my life. Moving is hard when it's just you and it's to just a couple of blocks away; but when a move involves a family changing cities, states/provinces, or in my case often countries, it can be daunting...for every member of the family.
