Hey, fellas! New to the board. I am a lifelong Chargers fan (from Indy). Became a diehard fan back in the Fouts, Winslow, Joiner, Muncie, Chandler, etc. days and I've been one ever since.

I've never been to San Diego or a home game. That is all about to change. Just bought flights to SD for Week 2 versus Jacksonville Jaguars. My son and I have attended one roadtrip game every year for the past 8 years (mainly in the Midwest). I am pumped to have SD be this year's destination (though sad that the reason why is the potential impending move). Gotta at least see one home game if that happen. I am one of those guys that will no root for an LA team, so I guess I'll have to find another team or just watch games each week with no "favorite team".

I joined the board because I was hoping some great local Chargers fans could give me advice on the best view/tickets in the stadium and also potentially some local/Mexican restaurants that a roadtripper has to hit while in town.

I don't think I want Field level seats and the Club seats are out of my price range. I've seen some potential seats in the $150 range and trying to keep it their (or below) from a cost standpoint. I'd just like to get some input from people who go frequently or have been their before. I'd hate to travel all that distance and buy poor seats.

I'm looking forward to the season, I think we have a real good shot of going from bottom-tier team to Playoff contender if we stay healthy (gotta stay positive, lol).

I appreciate any comments/advice that will help us have an awesome weekend! Bolt up!!

Welcome!

First off, despite what you may've heard, most of the seats are pretty nice...the few issues I have
with the "ancient" stadium pertain to rainy days...which we don't see a lot of in San Diego.

Seats in Sec. 36 or 37 are always my fav, for the obvious desirability of the 50 yard-line, but also
being on the Chargers' side, plus not having to squint into the sun, as visitors in Sec. 5 & 6 have to do. :(
Club is obscenely overpriced, and the view is much better high in Field Level or low in Plaza anyway.
If 36 & 37 can't be found at a decent price, 35, 34 or 33 would be my next picks. (I'm not an end-zone guy)

As far as Mexican food, San Diego has a wealth of extraordinary "Taco Bell" restaurants...
ah, just kidding. There's cheap, fast, tasty Mexican food on nearly every corner in San Diego...
mostly little taco shops called "Alberto's #27" or some such...hard to go too far wrong.
For snootier palates, theres stuff like: http://www.10best.com/destinations/california/san-diego/restaurants/mexican/

I remember well the glory days of Fouts, Winslow, Joiner, Muncie, Chandler, etc.
How the hell did a Super Bowl not happen in '79, '80 or '81?!?

Anyway, mid-September San Diego weather should be perfect...and lots of guys here can answer
any questions you have...and help with weird stuff like fish tacos... :p Have a great time!

Welcome!

I've had seats in the plaza level for 16 years. Great view from that level. Normally, I'd recommend staying out of Plaza behind the visiting team, as you might be surrounded by visiting fans. But as far as I know, Jags fans don't travel that well so it might not be a problem.

Am I best to buy parking pass or just find a spot? Not certain what kind of challenge parking is around the stadium. Would be will to walk at least 1 mile.

Welcome to the boards, man. Just be sure to bring your road whites as it will be warm to hot in September.

Take the trolley in to the stadium. And if you want to enjoy a tailgate experience, you are welcome to join us at our spot, just about 100-150 yards or so from the trolley station underneath the bridge.

I'll add to this by saying that I haven't parked in the stadium for a regular season game since 2004. I park/pick up the trolley at Hazard Center. Last year it was $6 for an all day MTS/Trolley pass.

Great idea, Carlsbad_Bolt_Fan/Pointyearedog! I'm staying in Mission Bay, but I think figuring out a trolley (or taxi) ride to the stadium is a fantastic suggestion. Hotel is 8 miles from the stadium, so it will be well worth the cost to not have to worry about parking or driving in unfamiliar and crowded area.

Pointyearedog, thank you for the invite, as I'll certainly want to get to the stadium early and walk around to check it out. I'll most definitely look for your tailgate and introduce myself.

I'll just add one thing about tickets: don't be afraid of View level seats, especially lower view. I had season tickets in Lower View for years and loved them. The sight lines are really good from that height. The only seats I'd really avoid are end zone and the first 10 or so rows of Field level. Other than that, you can't really go wrong.
