    San Diego (7-2) at Denver (7-2), Sunday, 8:15 (Denver -2 ½)

Storylines: Pivotal AFC West matchup pits the division's two most recent champions... Chargers, who will be playing their third of four games without suspended Pro Bowl linebacker Shawne Merriman (violation of NFL's steroid policy), are 0-6 in Denver since 1999...San Diego leads the NFL in scoring offense (33 points per game), while Denver leads the league in scoring defense (12.3 points per game) and touchdowns allowed (8)...Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson, who broke Jim Brown's league record by scoring 15 touchdowns over a five-game span, leads the NFL in touchdowns (18), rushing touchdowns (16), and scoring (108 points)... Tomlinson needs two more touchdowns in his next four games to become the fastest player to 100 TDs in NFL history...San Diego has committed a league-low six turnovers on the year...Denver running backs Mike Bell and Tatum Bell combined for just 65 yards on 31 combined carries in last week's 17-13 win at Oakland...Chargers have surrendered 30 points per game over their last four games, after allowing just 11 per game in their first five.

Fast Fact: Chargers head coach Marty Schottenheimer is 11-22 in his career against the Broncos, including 2-6 since coming to San Diego in 2005.

Prediction: Denver knows it can't afford to lose to a Shawne Merriman-less San Diego team at home, and will impose its will on the Chargers. Broncos 20, Chargers 16.
