Pretty interesting article I read today. The St. Louis Browns were one day away from moving to LA for the 1942 season, then Pearl Harbor happened and the move didn’t happen. In this what if scenario, the piece explores the “what if” of the Browns move and the writer speculates the ensuing domino effect.

In this fantasy the Padres are born in 1969 (although in navy blue and red like their PCL club to avoid matching the LA Browns color), end up moving to DC in 1974 (so Gwynn and Hoffman ended up playing there), and in 1977 get an AL expansion franchise (instead of Seattle because in this scenario the Pilots never move) but retain the Padres name.

The L.A. Browns logo could have been a picture of the valley air or the community toilet that is the Hollywood sidewalks.
