Season series: The Mariners swept three games from the Padres in Seattle May 19-21.

Mariners update: The Mariners are 7-1 in interleague play this season and have won four out of five overall, 10 of 15 and 13 of 19. Since their first victory over the Padres on May 19, the Mariners are 18-13. Ichiro Suzuki had hit safely in 19 straight games until last night and is batting .443 (35-for-79) in June. Ichiro has led off every Mariners game this season and is hitting .443 (31-for-70) in his first at-bats. Factor in three walks and a hit-by-pitcher, and his on-base percentage leading off a game is .473. He has 380 multihit games since 2001.

The skinny: Jake Peavy is tied for third in most losses in the National League. Only six pitchers have served up more than his 14 homers. Still, his strikeouts-to-walks ratio (9.6 per game to 2.2) remains one of the NL's best. Opponents are batting .248 against Peavy, who has given up 83 hits in 86 innings. But the Padres have scored two or fewer runs in eight of his 14 starts, including Saturday's 3-2 loss at Anaheim. Peavy is 4-0 against Seattle with a 1.69 ERA. Gil Meche is 3-0 against the Padres with a 3.16 ERA in four starts – including a win on May 20 in which he allowed one earned run on four hits in 72/3 innings.
