Chargers | Cromartie agrees to terms
Tue, 25 Jul 2006 16:57:13 -0700

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports the San Diego Chargers have reached an agreement with first-round draft pick CB Antonio Cromartie on a five-year, $12.75 million deal that includes $7.35 million in guarantees. There also are another $2 million in escalators. His deal represents a 13 percent increase over what last year's 19th overall selection, OT Alex Barron, got from the St. Louis Rams.

Not too shabby since he was after a reported ~ 4-6%.

I try not to get too excited about draft signings because 50% of the time they are busts but indeed FANTASTIC news.

No distractions.
true but frankly AJ has gotten much better over the last few years in signing draft picks

Cromartie's contract for being the #19 pick is about half what Michael Huff got at the #7 spot.

However, I think Cromartie will give us a much larger ROI and price/performance ratio than Huff.

For Huff to justify his contract versus Cromartie, he will have to outperform Cro about 2x1 in terms of picks and pass defenses. I just don't see that happening at all.

I think Huff and Cro will be about the same level this year, then Cro will start to surpass Huff. Cro has the higher ceiling and superior athleticism to get it done.

I saw the news reports earlier. This is really good news. When was the last time we had all our rookies signed so early? Probably back in the Bobby Beathard days when we never had to sign a first round pick.
Yeah, this is about as close to having them all signed "on time" as I've seen in a while. And with a new CBA extension and much higher salary cap to complicate matters too!

This is great to hear! Would have been nice if this had been done last night, but this is a definate improvement for the FO over the past few years. All the rookies in for the first week. VERY important.

Line em up and time to find out who wants to be one of the 53.
