Column: Tough decisions are part of the business

Like all positions of leadership in corporate America, being the general manager of a NFL franchise requires more than its share of difficult decisions. Over the course of his 22 years in the NFL – and particularly in the last three with the Chargers – General Manager A.J. Smith has been faced with choices that would unquestionably shape his legacy. Smith and the front office have been second-guessed for a number of decisions, but time has proven the moves wise.

Acting with the full confidence of team President Dean Spanos, Smith and the front office are on a roll with their personnel decisions. The roster is loaded with talented draft choices, including 22 of the 26 players chosen under Smith’s lead.
