Since the rock and roll hall of fame is in Cleveland and ticket agencies are now a huge part of the industry, how about the Cleveland Scalpers? Hat tip to someone on Facebook.

Interview with Cleveland’s owner Paul Dolan.

He wanted to pivot to the name “Tribe” but decided against it.

They will keep the Indians name until they decide on a new one. No interim name like the Washington Football Team.

They will continue to “honor the past” which will include selling Chief Wahoo merchandise (they are looking to donate proceeds from any Wahoo merchandise to American Indian causes).

How the Cleveland Neanderthals.

Sounds like a series with Neanderthals would be scary and tough.

Plus, those damn Cro-Magans love to shove that rulebook that the Ns
can't understand up their enlarged nostrils.

lmao.......there has to be a contraction of Neanderthals.....kinda like the Nationals have Nats. What could it be? 'Thals??? Nanders? or the Padres have the Friars. They could be the Cavers. or Dentheads. For sure Peyton Manning could never be part of ownership. And they have a natural intead of the same old 'nation crap. Clevelanderthals. Logo could be cool:

Personally I think Dean needs to explore this idea to rebrand.. He's a perfect fit as are his sons. Missing half their frontal lobes. The LAnderthals!

I actually dig it. Like the logo and the meaning behind the name.
Interesting that the Indians (now Guardians) could make their decision so quickly but the Redskins (currently the WFT) are dragging their feet.

I'm surprised they didn't jump on it quickly. They'll make a ton of money selling new merchandise.

WFT is bogging itself down in the whole trademark controversy, but it didn’t stop Cleveland from grabbing “Guardians”, which is also a partial name of a Marvel Comics (Disney) property, maybe the biggest hurdle of everyone yet Cleveland prevailed. Methinks WFT is being obtuse about this purposefully.

Fans All Wanted 1 New Name For The Cleveland Indians
Matt Audilet 3 hrs ago

The “Cleveland Indians” name that lasted more than 105 years is no more. Taking a new name for the first time since 1915, the storied franchise is now “The Cleveland Guardians.”

The organization announced its new moniker on Friday morning.

The “Guardians” name was selected in reference to the “Guardians of Traffic” — the giant figures carved into the pillars on either end of the Cleveland Bridge. While this new name has a meaningful connection with the city, plenty of Cleveland fans were upset with the decision.
Before today’s announcement, one other potential name was a clear fan-favorite: “The Cleveland Spiders.”
Cleveland’s professional baseball team operated under the “Spiders” name from 1887-1899 — and many fans hoped the franchise would make a return to that retro brand.

For years, the team’s former Indians name and mascot had drawn major criticism for its offensive perpetuation of Native American stereotypes. The franchise removed its cartoon “Chief Wahoo” mascot from its uniforms in 2019 — instead defaulting to a simple block-letter C.
Here are the logos for the new Guardian name:

While the fan reaction to this new name may not be overwhelmingly positive right now, maybe “The Guardians” will grow on Cleveland with time.
But for now, we’ll mourn the loss of a potential “Spiders” return.

most of the posts by cleveland fans are negative, they don't like it. Some of the comments are pretty funny.....I agree with them , it's pretty horrendous. They would have been much better off using what the fans wanted///SPIDERS. Great example of another team ignoring the wishes of their fans. Kinda like spanos.

I don't think I'd want to be on a team named for 'guardians of traffic"......wth is that???? named after a logo on the 2 pillars of the Cleveland Bridge.....lol. And after the fans by a huge margin wanted Spiders for the nickname. Ownership there must suck just like spanos. In fact they should have reserved that name for spanos so he could rebrand the chugs. lol

There are two teams named after the color of their socks, three I guess if you count the Reds (formerly Red Legs), so Guardians can't be any worse than that. But yes, Spiders is WAAAAAY better, so of course idiots didn't use it. Kind of like Spanos not using the REAL throwbacks when they could have.

My guess: someone owned the rights to Cleveland Spiders and wouldn’t negotiate. Another thing is the Cleveland Spiders hold the record for most losses in a season.

I don’t think Guardians is bad, it could’ve been much worse (like the Rockers).

I would think at some point the team or media would figure that out and disclose it if that is the case. Whoever that is would certainly get an Art Modell type reception from CLE fans LOL. I'm sorry to disagree but Guardians really sucks IMO. Much of the fan reaction reflects that opinion also. Maybe it will grow on them as the article said but seriously, compared to many other possibilities that name just is very lame. Of course all this is subjective, kinda like art. Too bad they couldn't have made Spiders work. Really the old historical record has nothing to do with anything. It's the fact it is a terrific throwback name and plus the possiblities for logo and uniforms is incredible. Fans were truly wanting that very badly. They were treated like dirt. CLE fans are used to that though I guess, kinda like we had to put up with dirtbags like spanos and klein for years. Sad that some cities are the benefactors of truly incompetent ownership for their teams. This to me is justanother example of a slap in the face to CLE fans. Sad.

Well I’d just have to say that naming your team after an arachnids isn’t a really good choice either. But it is Cleveland so I guess that explains why they want it, an insect with a history of losing.

So as long as we are talking naming teams after bridges......how about PETA goes after the detroit tigers and they have to change to the Detroit Ambassadors. LOLOL. Or the Padres,,,,,,religious bigotry........have to change to the SD Bays. Or the Giants......terrible choice makes fun of short people and midgets. Have to change to the SF Golden Showers. LOLOLOLOL.

I like the Guardians as a name but then again I'm not in Cleveland and I do think they should listen to their fans.

That being said, I think the Spiders is a completely stupid name. But like Savage said, there are two teams named after sock colors so there are a lot of stupid sport team names around why not one more?

Maybe ownership agreed that naming yourself after an arachnid is probably not a good idea.

I feel the same guardians (without even knowing its in reference to a bridge) is okay.

The fact the name Spiders has lineage, to me gives it valid usable name status. Also it does sound like one more dumb team name.

The graphics and logos look legit, if just only slightly over underwhelming.
