Marty Schottenheimer is not going to let happen this week what happened last week.

Oh, he was ecstatic about the end result, the Chargers' 48-19 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. But the preparation bothered him.

He felt his players failed to focus and lacked proper execution during their first practice of the week Wednesday, and he let them know it. He insists that preparation for this Sunday's game at Kansas City be robust throughout.

At this point, in first place and, in Schottenheimer's words, “starting to play pretty consistently,” but with a “formidable task” ahead at Arrowhead, there can be no lapses.

And so he had his team report for light duty yesterday, a decision he evidently had made even before the game in San Francisco.

As he walked to the team bus Sunday night, still smiling after a successful afternoon, Schottenheimer was asked about the lack of a “Victory Monday,” the team's usual day off following a win.
