Still fresh, thanks to a bye in the season's just-completed third week, the Chargers returned to work (sort of) yesterday eager to prove they can do more than clobber bad teams.

At 2-0, they seem to still be in search of respect, the NFL and those who assess it unsure how good a team is that has thus far only routed Oakland and Tennessee.

The Chargers know what awaits Sunday in Baltimore – a 3-0 Ravens team, which has also beaten only the winless but seems to be the sexy new pick as among the class of the AFC.
“There's no question it's the best team we've played by far,” Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers said.

Shawne Merriman, asked whether Sunday is a “statement game,” responded that it was.
