Helping others in dire need is what the Chargers Blood Drive is all about. The Chargers Blood Drive has been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest blood drive ever held on a single day in a single location. In fact, Chargers Blood Drives have collected over 42,000 pints during the past 26 years.

The first Chargers Blood Drive was held in 1979 when popular kicker Rolf Benirschke was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, requiring nearly 80 pints of blood. Thousands of fans flocked to an impromptu blood drive set up at the stadium to replace the blood used by Rolf. Since then, Rolf has continued his involvement with the event and the Chargers Blood Drive has grown to help more than 100,000 patients in need.

The San Diego Chargers 28th Annual Blood Drive, sponsored by San Diego County Credit Union, is Nov. 21 from 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. at the Town & Country Convention Center in Mission Valley. There is free parking for all donors and all donors will receive a free Chargers Blood Drive commemorative longsleeve t-shirt ! Come out and help the San Diego Chargers and the San Diego Blood Bank give the gift of life this holiday season! There will be plenty of entertainment and, of course, the Chargers will be there throughout the day signing autographs and meeting fans! Don't miss special performances by the Charger Girls and the day's finale — the Chargers Family Fashion show.

For more information on how you can give the gift of life this throughout the year by donating blood, call the San Diego Blood Bank at (619) 296-6393 or visit www.sandiegobloodbank.org.
