Hi fellow Bolts, I’m Sam from England.

I finally got hooked on football following the beginning of the Wembley games. I knew the Bolts would be my team as I’ve always wanted to visit Southern California, love Mexican food and good craft beer :D, plus LT was my fav player.

First NFL game was Saints/Chargers at Wembley and for the past couple of years I have visited SD for a Broncos game, then last season at the Raiders and Rams. I now plan to visit every year for 2 games and might even take in a road game in 2015, just having to wait to see where the schedule hits in April.

I was meaning to join here a while back and it was only when I read Adam Goldstein’s book ‘Tailgate to heaven’ recently that I remembered!

Looking forward to getting to know more Bolts fans and I see there are also some others from across the pond on here...Perhaps we could arrange to visit SD together next season! (Hopefully it won’t be the last...)

I went to the first two games this season. Plan on making it an annual event now so I carefully watch the schedule and look for good games that are lined up near each other. Well worth the BoltTalk tailgating with pointyearedog, Boltzzz, Sydalish, Charger Girl and co.

Hi 88

A few of us from UK and Europe went over to SD as a group 2008(?) and have kept in touch on here and on twitter. We got a couple of rentals on Mission Beach and had a blast. We met really good people in SD on that trip who some of us still keep in touch with and I now count them as friends, especially after Mrs English and I returned again last year.

Pointy's tailgate is a great way to start the day!

There had been talk of another group trip over there this year but I've been poorly and off work for a while and one of the other UK based possibles has already booked to go to Japan this year. It's very likely to happen in 2016 though.

Keep checking on here which is where the planning and arrangements are likely to start.

Tony

Hi Tony,

Sounds good! I was actually thinking of getting a group going, I noticed there is the EuroBolts (Irish) one...is that who you are referring to?

I stay in Ocean Beach just south of Mission, lovely place! I'll definitely be checking back here regarding any planning and I'm more than happy to help push things along if you could direct me to many key contacts?

Nice signature quote by the way ;)

regards,

Sam

Hi guys,

New to the forum and been a bolts fan since 2004ish, but only started watching every game and fully obsessed since 2013.

I was hoping some of the UK guys could give me some tips/advice? I'm thinking of going out next year to try catch 1/2 games - maybe a Thursday and Sunday game if possible? Could anyone tell me the best way to fly out/time of the year/good hotel locations etc.?

Thanks in advance!

Luke

In regards to time to go, theres always a time in the schedule where two home games are played back to back. This year its Titans/Dolphins.

I check each year and target those games to go to. Failing that, atmosphere wise I generally find the first home game in the season is also good, because every team is positive about their chances early in the season.

Hi Luke,

I've travelled out annually the last 4 years and next year will be no different if we stay in SD. I usually bookend a 16 day trip so 2 home games either end of the trip and go out and explore other cities in between. Just returned from Saints/Raiders/Bronco trip this season :).

Come April will start planning, I know couple other UK fans who travel too, so if you plan to go solo give me a shout!

You'll find flying to LAX and getting the Surfliner train down is generally much cheaper than the single direct BA flight – plus Virgin Atlantic are far superior imo. Stay in USA hostels downtown or Ocean Beach for a cheap yet awesome experience.

Ill be in Hippodrome Casino at Leicester Square on Sunday for Broncos game if you happen to be in the capital for wembo

Thanks guys, I'll definitely take a look at the Surfliner train. I'll probably going with a couple of mates, one I've converted to the Chargers, the other a passive Packers fan. Oz, I was thinking the first home game might be a good shout - hopefully a fully fit roster at least. Have you guys ever been to an Away game and do you have any accommodation recommendations? Thanks.
