7. Chargers. Another 9-7 team that failed to make the playoffs, the Chargers were thought to be on their way up until they lost their quarterback, Drew Brees, and decided to rely on untested Philip Rivers.

But Rivers is proof that a team with a great running game (second to Atlanta) and a No. 1-ranked defense doesn’t require a hero at quarterback. The Steelers and Roethlisberger proved it when Big Ben was a rookie.

Rivers has been efficient, throwing only two interceptions against his five touchdown passes. Only a close loss in Baltimore has blemished the record. Mark Nov. 19 on the calendar. The Chargers go to Denver for their first big AFC West showdown.

The thing that gets me is that most people still think that Rivers has only succeeded so far because of the Running backs. Although they've helped a great deal you got to give him some credit for making some very nice throws and not making many mistakes. Not only that but the protection up front has been great. It's not JUST having LT and Turner in the backfield.

Philip will have to throw for 1000 yards, 6 TD, and no more than 2 INT in the next 4 games before the media whores will say he can lead a team to victory.

Even though he just did that on SNF.

Yes, and when the ants stumbled their way into a victory over the eagles, they started calling him the greatest 4th quarter qb since elway and all this other crap. Let them stroke him all they want. It just makes it that much more entertaining when some jerkstore like Shockey starts talking trash about his own team and they fall apart this season:icon_rofl:

If Rivers continues to step it up he will get his due. Smith is counting on it.

The Bolts had 8 yards rushing in the first half last week. The only reason we were still in that game at the half was because of Rivers.

During our 91 yard TD drive in the 2nd half, we ran it once for a single yard.

Somebody (Trumpy??) posted a link that Rivers had the highest 4th quarter QB rating in the league. When you have a QB that posts that he is doing a little more than just "handing off"
