Since
Ohtani is a pitcher as well as a hitter, what pitcher are you going to give up?
Musgrove? Darvish? What if it was those plus Tatis?
I don't see it happening. Ohtani is going to get. $30 million just in arbitration.
What if part of deal is the Angels want to send you Readon for Manny. (36 million to $30 million)?
It's anice idea but the gain vs. cost is very dicey.
Agree, however you gotta remember the precise reason the Pads were condidered as a potential landing spot for Ohtani IF (huge if) he is traded this winter. Padres are not one of the TOP favored spots however they are in that tier 2 by themselves......reason?......PRELLER.......he is known for 'dicey' trades and risk taking. So would not be a surprise to them if the Padres wind up making a huge deal to get Ohtani.
My big concern is if the Gnats end up with both Judge and Ohtani. That would be just as dicey a deal as if we sit still in relation. They were only , what, 3-5 GB us in the regular season standings? That would put them somewheres up close to the dogs I'd guess. So if for some reason Soto doesn't return to 2019-21 and Tatis doesn't return to Tatis.....we might be 3rd place
Re: giving up a pitcher.....if they insist on one of those you mention, I'm not devastated, Senga would have to be part of the Padres plan though. Otherwise yeah, we get a pitcher only to give up one. Remember , Darvish is coasting down towards the twilight of his career. Ohtani and Senga in his place? A no brainer if the Angels want that as part of the Ohtani deal. But you are right, it's ALL dicey when you start throwing around huge names on both sides of a deal. If we let Soto or Tatis go and they go ballistically good, we could be sorry. Risk is all part of the equation....but no risk, no reward as they say. Pay to play.
