File this under taking a bad idea and making it worse.

I think it's great the way it is, doing it during training camp. Instead of playing in meaningless TC games, they can get ready for the season in more meaningful games. Plus it gets much more fan interest during a relatively slow month. Putting it in the middle of the season is a terrible idea.

Scherzer should stick to figuring out more ways to cheat the pitch clock.

Diamond Sports isn't the only company experiencing financial woes with its regional sports networks. Warner Bros. Discovery, which has an ownership stake in three of the AT&T SportsNet networks, has given the Colorado Rockies, Houston Astros and Pittsburgh Pirates until March 31 to reclaim their broadcast rights. WBD Sports is ending its investment in the networks.

IMHO

this will have a domino affect with all sports.

Sad he injured that thing celebrating. Bummer for the kid. Could be severe, awaiting MRI. Well there is one team that will rue the WBC. Celebrations like that might just be put on hold for something like the end of the WS and that's it. Even then gotta wonder how many have been injured during group and solo celebrations in all sports.

Such a freak injury but I'm shocked more players don't get injured during celebrations. Soccer players sometimes get piled on by virtually the entire team when they score a goal.

It's strange how athletes injure themselves doing the simplest things.

--

— After the Los Angeles Angels’ Kendrys Morales beat the Seattle Mariners with a grand slam in the bottom of the ninth in 2010, he took a big leap onto home plate and broke his leg. The bouncing scrum at home was subsequently banned by manager Mike Scioscia.

— Chicago Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster broke his big right toe in 2009 when his foot got caught in the dugout railing while he was trying to run out with his teammates to celebrate a win over the Brewers.

— In 2001, Denny Hocking of the Minnesota Twins broke his nose, compliments of his overzealous teammates, who kept smacking the bill of his helmet — and a few accidental face shots — after his first walk-off home run.

— After the San Diego Padres clinched their division in 2005, pitcher Jake Peavy broke a rib while getting a big hug from his teammates. The injury wasn’t discovered until weeks later when Peavy had an MRI following his forgettable postseason (eight hits and eight earned runs in 4 1/3 innings).

— Washington Redskins quarterback Gus Frerotte decided to head-butt the padded wall behind the end zone after scoring on a short run against the Giants in 1997. Stunned but unbowed, he was checked by the team trainers and continued to play before leaving later in the game. He was then transported to a hospital with a sprained neck.

— Arizona Cardinals kicker Bill Gramatica ended his rookie season in 2001 with an ACL tear. He was hurt jumping up and down after making a 42-yard field goal against the Giants.

yeah amazing more don't get hurt in those celebrations, that's not a terribly long list. I guess let the celebrations continue....it's part of the game. I'm pretty impressed by the WBC crowds and the responses to those games.....it's a big deal to those countries.....Diaz sure looks to be a really bad injury...any news yet? It looks like a potential long time out for that guy maybe the year. Jeebus that would not be good.....hopefully it will be less than what it looks like....getting carted off is never a good sign for a knee.

thanks for posting...you beat me to it LOL...I just asked if any news above. Damn that is not good, he's done for the year for sure:
Complete patellar tendon tear recovery: since the patellar tendon breaks into two pieces, it will require surgery, which can take about six months to recover along with extensive rehabilitation. Some patients have reported a period of about 12 months before complete recovery

Do you think Teams like the Padres, will "formalize" game-winning celebrations grouping at home plate?
I wonder why a Green Bay Packer coach doesn't get hyperthermia from Gatorade on the noggin'.

Scott Boras

"It’s very rare that a team can put together a group of players in the primes of their careers, or close to the prime, where there are four players at this level,” Boras said. “For the Padres, they’ve moved a mountain to San Diego. And it’s called Mt. Crushmore.”

Good news: Morejon’s MRI came back clean. No ETA on his return though.
is that really good news? Maybe if he were gone it would light a fire under the pads to fortify the pitching rather than rely on a really iffy pitcher. jes sayin'
