The Padres must be starting to feel good about Junior’s return, they have his City Connect bobblehead scheduled this year.
Soto's bobblehead is very early (April 13th). Conspiracy theory, gotta get that bobblehead in there before they ship him at the trade deadline. ;)

Bauer is light years better than Lugo, Weathers, Morejon or whoever we have competing for the fifth spot.
1. Lugo has a better ERA and a better lifetime winning percentage.
2. Maybe that silence from all 30 MLB teams can't be heard.
3. He's a dick. With spider tack, he's average pitcher. Far below
Average in character.

That’s nice. Says nothing about his current pitching abilities.
I think it does. No professional team even wants him even in their minor leagues.
Best year 2017, he was 17-9 with a 4.48 ERA for Cleveland.
Two years later, 2019, when traded to the Reds he pitched 2-5 and 6.39 ERA
Miracle! of The Spider! Short Covid year, ERA 1.73, 5-4, Cy Young Award winner.
best part: Dodgers bite, get screwed by contract.

There’s only one reason teams are shying away Right now, has nothing to do with his stats. When pennant contenders get desperate they will kick the tires.

If it comes to that it will mean the Pads are out of contention. Can we then fire Preller?

More on the Bally bankruptcy.

This WILL impact the Padres bottom line. They really need to win this year.

The padres have one of the lower tiered mlb contracts compared to the likes of St. Louis. This might end being a good thing where mlb can start broadcasting the games directly to the consumer. I can see paying a monthly streaming package. I got no problem with that. The padres revenue is only like 25 million a year from ballys which is jack shit honestly.

Be careful. You're comparing Lugo the starter/reliever to Bauer the starter. I have no problem with Lugo being a reliever but his numbers are not good as a starter.

We have the same issue with Martinez but Martinez showed that he can be dominant later in the year in multi-inning outings so if I had to pick one, Martinez would be much more likely to succeed in a starting role. Lugo hasn't done it well and hasn't done it in a few years. Plus there are his arm issues. That's rolling the dice big time on him.

You need to separate Bauer the pitcher and Bauer the person. He might be an unlikable guy in your eyes but that is separate from his performance on the field.

Might be Jack shit, but it depends on how much they make and how they divvy everything up once MLB takes over. I have to think that even $25M is a hit for revenues. BTW, do you have a link for that revenue number? I can’t find it.

Thanks. According to Wiki, the revenue from TV is supposed to escalate tipping out at $75M for the Padres. It is a disaster, I hope they can turn lemons into lemonade but flipping to a streaming model won’t happen overnight. I wonder if MLB knew in advance and were prepared for this?

Padres just need to stream the games on Twitch and have viewers donate to the team lol.

I don't know how the hell they're going to fix this. This is what the MLB deservers though. They didn't think long-term and were going for the easy quick buck.

I agree with Eric. He didn’t seem totally bothered by the situation and felt in the long term it would benefit the padres financially.

He suggested that mlb would purchase ballys through the bankruptcy process which I agree with:

1. Bally has the infrastructure in place so mlb would only have to staff what is necessary to produce the games.

2. They can purchase Bally’s dirt cheap since it is going through a restructuring process.

3. Mlb then can get rid of the stupid blackout rules and show the games locally.

4. they would generate a shit ton of money off streaming. Easily could get 20$ a month. Most people spend a 100$ a month just to watch the pads.

5. think of the espn model.

6.No one really knows how much these dudes make because their Private entities but I can promise you it’s a shit ton of money. Some dude bought the phoenix suns for 4 billion dollars.

7. Ballys will show the games while going through bankruptcy and mlb and Ballys will figure out a payment schedule.

8. Eric knew it was coming.

I think I paid $50 last year but it was July I think. Full season was $139 I think.

that’s out of market. I don’t why they couldn’t flip a switch and no blackouts. But I don’t think fans are going to pay that much for a crappy product

I'll be ticked bigtime of Ohtani ends up on the Mets. They might have the prospects and #'s of vets to trade that we don't . Angels will cave and trade him rather than let him become a FA and get nothing in return. Or they might cave and sign him but doubt Ohtani would be well served by his agent to stay in Anaheim and rot for his career. If Padres really want Ohtani they are gonna have to be prepared to offer up some bigtime names and prospects and outbid the mets. Not a good situation to be in .....don't think it's doable frankly. I hate the Mets. But that's likely where he's headed. Or the Dogs.

Could Angels improve enough to sway Ohtani? I don't know. Will Ohtani maintain his stand that he wants to play on the West Coast? He has repeatly said he wants to play for a winning team. If Padres get it together big time this season
would that attract him?
i do feel the money is not the issue, he is well aware he'll top dollar. Will Angels play hard ball and demand a ton of players to trade Ohtani, regardless of his like or dislike of the destination? Or would Angels swing a better deal in saying just don't go to Seattle or LA....and we'll ship you to SD? Maybe Angels try offering him a mega bucks two year deal, and "the team will improve tremendously"? Thinking like player, Peter might sign Soto immediately if Ohtani any interest , (via Preller), as proof of a loaded team, powerful team he can join.

You guys crack me up. The video was discussing Ohtani's FREE AGENCY.

You actually think he's going to sign a new contract just a few months away from being involved in the largest bidding war ever? That would be stupidest move ever.

Yeah, he only gets traded to a team who clearly knows it would be a rental for a pennant drive, a team willing to give up massive amounts of capital to acquire him (similar to what the Dogs did to acquire Manny). He’s definitely testing the market.

Interesting article on how the pitch clock could benefit player's health over the course of their careers.
