I hope you are right about Scherzer to the Mets and not dogs. The guy is gonna want high profile and best odds at a ring me thinks. Would love him here but don't think that's even in the cards is it?
i like berrios better than schwerzer cause he is much younger and would comtrol him for a couple years.

i dont think the schwerzer market is as max as they make it out to be.

It will take a team to allow themselves to be raped to land Scherzer. If I’m a GM I’m not emptying my budget on a 37 year old starter, he WILL go down very soon and very fast.

harry where do you find these awesome
stories?
I was looking up Babe Ruth due his childhood disease I think with polio? And that affect his legs.

Anyone recall Sammy Byrd the Masters Tournament golfer? And his Yankee career as
“Babe Ruth's Legs.”........

I read this today. “Why it should happen but won’t”. I did not realize how old the Streetshitters were as a team. That will backfire next year, let’s hope it nails them this year too.

Blockbuster by the Bay
Giants get: RHP Max Scherzer, LHP Brad Hand
Nationals get: OF Heliot Ramos
(MLB’s No. 63 prospect), C Patrick Bailey(Giants’ No. 6 prospect)
Why it should happen: Entering this season, it seemed unfathomable that an aging Giants club could contend in a division with the defending World Series champion Dodgers and the powerhouse Padres. San Francisco was a sub-.500 club in each of the previous four seasons, and its roster is heavily comprised of veterans on the wrong side of 30. But the club aced its free-agent signings of Kevin Gausman, Anthony DeSclafani, Alex Wood and Jake McGee on the pitching side and has gotten resurgent seasons from Buster Posey, Brandon Crawford and Evan Longoria at the plate en route to the best record in the Majors.
Still, this feels less like the start of another dynastic run for the Giants and more like the last hurrah for this core. Gausman, DeSclafani, Wood, Crawford, Brandon Belt and Donovan Solano are all free agents after 2021. Posey could be, too, if his $22 million club option isn’t picked up. This is a team that should go for it at the Deadline, and acquiring Scherzer and Hand would substantially improve the club’s chances of winning the NL West -- thereby avoiding the NL Wild Card Game -- and making a World Series run.
Why it won’t: Would the Giants really pay this sort of prospect price for two rentals? Probably not when they already have so many key players due to hit free agency this offseason.

Are Tatis and Weathers really the only guys who have panned out from the Hot Talent Lava™? Tatis is already making bank so you're not even getting the cheap value out of him anymore. And Weathers is a very small sample size and still has some question marks.

That seems really pathetic. We've traded away a lot of pieces to get the vets that we have. That's not sustainable and trading more top prospects for guys like Gallo it really shortens the window to win IMO. It's great that Preller can pull off these trades that hasn't given up too much yet but small market teams need their farm system to contribute to the roster a lot more than what we've gotten out of them.

I read somewhere they’re still considered a top-5 farm but your point is sobering, only Tatis and Weathers from our farm system (and we didn’t even draft Tatis).

no need for wikisports or wikipedia.......harrypedia (wait that sounds pornographic lol)
I like to quote 'other sources' because I may not have remembered it all and in the past, some family members have threaten legal action against me for my Thatz Not Howz I Remember It
Sports articles. Younger readers claim I just make stories up. They claimed there couldn't be a Sultan of Swat because Arabs were not allowed to play baseball back then.
When I told them that The Great Bambino was immortalized in Cooperstown in 1936 when he, Ty Cobb Walter Johnson, Christy Matthewson and Honus Wagner were inducted in the Hall of Fame’s inaugural class. I was told —who?—-and ....old man, you're thinking of Canton, Ohio and that was in 1963..not 1936. Called me a Loser.

yeah we had ALREADY given up 15 of the top 30 prior to this and now we're giving up additional out of the new top 30 and not sure where those stand but at least one in the top 5.....Marcano, Suwinksi, and forgetting the 3rd in that deal for Fazier. Agree it's not sustainable although one article seemed to indicate the Padres have had some success replacing those that are lost, to an extent. Not sure what that means. And agree the so-called 'hot lava' has not panned out other than Weathers who is still borderline at this stage. Gore thus far appears to be a bust...and that is probably the biggest guy that Preller was bragging about re: 'hot lava'. We need those guys to produce bigtime to reduce the payload and stay competitive......otherwise it's a few years and crash and burn. Preller is going to get booted if it comes down to that and there is no ring to show for it...and may be why he's making all these big moves. Hope he's not in desperation mode like ajsmith was in his last year trying to save his hide and norb's. Maybe Seidler is made of money and is the ideal owner and is the first owner here in forever , for who winning is a hell of a lot more important than money. If so maybe he's told Preller to pull out all the stops and don't worry if some don't pan out. SD has been used to crap owners and after the worst of them all shit all over this town and picked up and left to shit somewhere else, we are having PTSD...maybe there IS such a thing as a decent owner who really cares about the town and about winning. What a concept ;)

Meaningful impact is hard to measure. I think if a guy sticks in the majors for 5-10 years that would be meaningful

yeah would like to see what happened to each one that was traded out for a veteran or prospects that were developed or crashed and burned in our system. A list of all would be tough to put together I'm sure.

Might be easier to do what TTK did, list Tatis and Weathers.

the larger point i was making that the farm sustem has stunk for decades. it is my understanding that it takes 4-5 years for player to enter a teams farm system and produce. Now, I know college players are different. Preller took over in 2015 and had to totally reconstruct the farm system from the floor up. To me this is the first year we are seeing the fruits of prellers labor show itself. I dont remember a time in padres history where two prospects have been a success like tatis and weathers. I really believe that abrams would have been another if not for his injury. I know we bag on peacock but you have to call him a success if you look ar his whole body of work. Caratini has held down the catching position while nola was on the mend. Also, if lamet didnt get hurt, he would have been a stud. You cant blame preller for injuries. I guesz you can say that this team has been built by in large by having a solid farm system.

Actually my point is not about trading away a player who becomes an all star. It's about having a roster that is not so to heavy in salary. I don't see this being sustainable in a small market for very long. Trading another top prospect for Gallo just adds another huge salary.
